Hi. Now that the summer is over, I wanted to introduce myself to our new writers and check in with everyone else.
For our new writers, I'm the news, politics and investigations editor. I also write for the news section. The editing role has been a vague one so far, but I'm hoping to make it more concrete this fall. After a long paternity leave, I'm back at work at my day job, which, paradoxically, should give me much more time for coordinating and editing. I will be writing fewer columns, though hopefully will write more shorter blog entries for the site.
I've got some ideas for the fall - chats in real time or by e-mail on the week
ahead, coordinating themes, writing multiple posts on the same topic, to name a few. Sam says we can set up a dedicated room in the new editing community he's starting, if we want. I'd love to give that a try, though am open to Skype calls, Facebook groups, news groups, and simple group e-mails. But any of those options depends on a pretty high level of participation from the writers.
So I'd love to hear from all of you on both practical matters and the bigger vision. How often do you see writing? Are you interested in tighter coordination? And if so, do you realistically have the time for it?
Also, we are on the look out for someone to lead a new reader investigation. Our first one on generic and private label food went really well, with a fair amount of reader support. So let me know if you're interested and what topics you might like to
cover.
Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from all of you.
