Yeah, and between that and One Laptop Per Child, the rush will be to influence what content goes on to these things; anyone who could convince the proprietors to include a particular education package would have the opportunity to thereby influence millions of Third World youngsters. 

Speaking of which, there was an exchange in Foreign Policy a month back between a Carr-esque fellow who was knocking the internet's allegedly positive influence on democracy (and he did this very poorly and I'm writing a retort for Skeptical Inquirer today) and the founder of One Laptop Per Child, who wrote in a letter to which the author responded in a very transparently dishonest manner. This also gave me the idea of trying to get in touch with that founder once we've got a couple of these other questions hammered out.
