Scott: Hey, you there?
me: yep
Scott: Do you know the hikers in Iran thing?
me: not sure
me: this a recent thing?
Scott: About a yea old.
Scott: year*
Scott: 3 Americans were hiking and were arrested.
me: they got brought in on espionage?
Scott: Detained but not charged.
me: okay
Scott: yea, that's it
Scott: well one of the hikers happens to be a friend of my best friend's i.e. stayed in my place in Bayside once
Scott: maybe he's the most convert spy I've ever met but I truly believe it's not espionage.
me: right
Scott: In any case, as a result of my association I'm getting involved with an event on Friday July 30th, which is apolitical but with the agenda to get them home.
me: oh, they're still in
me: I can certainly help
Scott: I have not mentioned this to anyone so it's 100% up to you, but I didn't know if you wanted to get involved with the possibility for mutual promotion.
me: would get Eisler to help too but he's former CIA so probably wouldn't be helpful
me: no, I'll certainly help
Scott: yea, it's been about a year.
me: I hate the Iranian regime, obviously
Scott: yes, and they're clearly using these kids as a tool.
me: yeah, and I'm not fond of that tendency by governments either
me: let me think about best way to approach this
Scott: ok let me know, for now i'm going to keep my mouth shut
me: got to think about who would be best involved and who wouldn't
Scott: I was just brought along to help provide any support I can to the event
Scott: also, if you want me to liason or put you in touch directly, either is fine wiht me
me: yeah, let me think on this before we move at all
me: need to do it right
Scott: That's fine with me and I very, very much appreciate the thoughts.
me: no problem at all, will get back to you this evening
Scott: ok
me: will definitely talk to Barry Eisler quietly about this
me: just might be best if he doesn't act directly
Scott: completely understood. let me know if you want the link to their website.
me: definitely
