Subject: Chat with Scott Mintz |
From: Scott Mintz <scott.w.mintz@gmail.com> |
1:36 AM me: yo yo
Scott: Hey, how's it going?
me: very, very well
Scott: I was about to email Clark.
Enjoying Dallas?
me: talked to Andrew Sullivan today
whom I respect a great deal
1:37 AM you familiar with him?
Scott: I'm just looking at his Wiki page now.
me: anyway, he's one of the people I was really hoping to get in contact with
1:38 AM he'd linked to the VF piece on Hastings the other day
anyway, sent him book manuscript and chatted with him
he invited me to come out to D.C.
which I may do at some point anyway
also
will be appearing on Russia Today tomorrow evening
1:39 AM it's an increasingly-popular English-speaking cable news outlet
but partially Kremlin-backed
they want me to talk about the VF article and Hastings and journalism and all that
which I will
as well as plugging Project PM in front of a huge audience
but also
Scott: that's awesome, congratulations!
1:40 AM me: I'm not going to be invited back
Scott: lol
me: they didn't really do their homework on this one
cable news outlets never do
I've written articles making the case that the 1999 Russian apartment bombings
Scott: I wasn't familiar with the network, what is their stance?
1:41 AM me: which Putin blamed on Chechnya before invading
their intent is to make Russia look good
despite facts to the contrary
Scott: Well you mentioned it was Kremlin-backed.
me: they receive money from the fed gov
and the main producer
received flowers from Putin on the occasion of her birthday
1:42 AM Mark Adomanis, who is one of our participants
Scott: Yes, I've read some of his works and know his knowledge when it comes to Russia.
he's
me: with whom I originally tangled publicly
yes, he's very well-informed on Russia
and I admire his poise
1:43 AM he's appeared on the network twice, as Clark informs me
did very well
anyway, he does engage in some dishonest tactics on occasions
but I like him for some reason and think he could become a fine pundit
1:44 AM Scott: Young guy?
me: yes, younger than I
25 or some such, I think
anyway
Scott: Yes, young guy.
Okay so you're scheduled to appear on this show.
me: the 1999 apartment bombings were clearly a false flag operation conducted by Putin's FSB
1:45 AM the full case for this is actually made in my upcoming book, and incidentally I'll send you the manuscript directly
it is not very common knowledge
Scott: this is certainly new news to me
1:46 AM me: the only other U.S. commentator of whom I'm aware who has made this case is David something
one moment
yes, unfortunately it is the sort of story that does not lend itself to being made a story due to several dynamics
Scott: David Satter?
me: yes
1:47 AM he actually made his case in National Review a few years back
and elements of the real story were reported by WSJ and NYT, as I recall, but never received any follow-up
anywho, there's a lot to be said on this topic, but long story short I am going to bring it up tomorrow evening
1:48 AM innocently
Scott: It seems he testified before Congress.
me: as it happens to be one of my favorite examples of poor media work
yes
and the CIA and NSA
and everyone else
is clearly aware of what happened
but has no interest in calling the Russians on that
Scott: Are you bringing up the incident to raise awareness on the issue and/or to raise awareness to the lack of coverage?
1:49 AM me: both
Scott: Certainly a good plug for PM
me: a Russian government killing its own citizens is hardly an important story
but it's part of my case against Friedman
1:50 AM who of course called on Americans in 2001 to "keep rootin' for Putin"
etc
Scott: Are sure after bringing this up you're not going to get the red carpet service?
me: unfamiliar with the metaphor
Scott: I might have botched it.
1:51 AM me: the Kremlin has killed a number of journalists and even former FSB agents who have talked about this
but they haven't killed Satter
Scott: Basically I was agreeing that you won't get a second invite.
me: oh, of course I won't
Scott: Is the interview live?
me: yes, otherwise this wouldn't be viable
I checked to make sure
1:52 AM Scott: Right
What time will you be on EST and the network name is what again?
1:53 AM me: 8 EST, Russia Today
also
spoke to Robert Green just now
mostly about Sullivan
but at any rate the guy's very much intent on doing what he's said
this is the LA producer, by the way
1:54 AM Scott: Yea, I IMDB'd him several days ago.
me: I liked the one near the top
Unnamed Teen Social Networking Horror Film or whatever
1:55 AM Scott: Do you know what the actual title is?
me: probably Facespook
1:56 AM perhaps something more clever
no idea
Scott: Is Sullivan participating in PPM?
me: not sure yet
he's aware of it
1:57 AM and he'll be reading my book during his upcoming vacation
so may perhaps be inclined to work with us
Scott: I just got the transcript, thank yoiu.
me: anyway, he admires Hastings and I
he's already been useful and will probably be useful in the future
1:58 AM Scott: ok good
give me one second, i want to see if I can DVR your performance
me: Russia Today is on Time Warner Cable in NYC
1:59 AM also they stream online, I think
Scott: Yea, I see the online stream.
me: very good
try to DVR it anyway, as we'll need a copy
and they may not be inclined to keep a clip on their site
2:00 AM Scott: I'm not sure I can burn from my DVR to another media (at least the Verizon people told me I can't)
me: that's fine
my Fox News appearance on YouTube
was recorded off of TV with a video camera
by ex-girlfriend
2:01 AM Scott: I could technically DVR it then take a video of it
that's exactly what i was just thinking
me: anyway, I'm going to arrange to have someone else capture the stream as a back-up
Scott: Yea, I would suggest that.
I'm still trying to make sure I have the channel.
2:06 AM bad news
I don't think I get it
me: no prob, I got it covered
anyway
I imagine it will appear on YouTube regardless
Scott: excited?
me: I don't really get excited
2:07 AM more interested in my Morrowind character
you don't know what that means but don't worry
Scott: I'm a World of War person myself
me: ah
I played Gemstone IV
Scott: it's responsible for most of my battery deaths
me: back in the day
2:08 AM which was an early text-based MMORPG
I started a secret org with my friends
Scott: wow, that's old school
me: and we discovered that if one picked a lock on a box incorrectly
a certain sort of box
it would explode
killing or maiming everyone in the area
so we became a terrorist group
2:09 AM Scott: I just chuckled
me: the day we pulled off the attack in the town square where everyone heals and lays down and is otherwise vulnerable
Scott: an anarchist from the start
me: was among the best of my life
we killed like 15 people immediately
others had limbs blown off and then bled to death
Scott: you attached during the healing process?
that's not cool
me: meanwhile the healers were mostly dead
2:10 AM it wasn't mean to be cool
and then other people are still being dragged in
this wasn't a PvP game, either
Scott: how did you goes decide who would be the martyr?
me: it was an honor we fought over
Billy got to do it because he was the one who figured out the box technique
Scott: i think that's only fair
2:11 AM me: also
we started a female character
seduced a far more powerful character
took him to an inn
took off our clothes
and our pack
prompting him to do same
then grabbed his pack
and signed out
that was second-greatest day
Scott: crap, i've had this happen to me in real life
jk
me: this was when we were 14 or so
lol
2:12 AM Scott: the amazing things we do at young ages
2:13 AM me: yeah, I got suspended a lot
2:14 AM Scott: i was the nerd and always hoped i came off cooler than i really was
