I don't disagree with criticisms of European colonialism. But it's now the end-all attack on the U.S., Israel, whatever ... is fringe delegitimization designed to bring about radical change. We've had a states system recognized under international law since at least 1648. Native Americans needed to defend themselves better. I don't feel sorry for them. It's a Hobbesian world. And no, they can't travel wherever they want. All nations maintain secure borders, or the die.

Just to clarify regarding your piece, do you think the description of European colonization of the Western hemisphere provided on those two signs constitute an inaccurate description of what happened in the 15th and 16th centuries?

That's odd. I listened to classical music, carried a picture of Ayn Rand in my wallet, and wore ties to school.

Are you familiar with Peter Ivers and New Wave Theater out of LA from early '80s? There's a bizarre back story behind all that, ending with Ivers being murdered during an affair with Harold Ramis' wife, also involved an apparent cover-up of Jon Belushi's death and other random things. I worked on a book on the subject a while ago. Anyway, here's a clip; you may remember The Plugz if you were out there?

I used to be a punker. Saw Johnny Lydon twice, plus loads of other British punk bands.

Can't even count the L.A. punk bands I've seen, and my best friend was in an L.A. rockabilly band. Was a top competitive skateboarder as well, and hung out with all the big names folks talk about today. Tony Hawk was just a kid back then ...

That's thirty years ago now ... I'm an old fuddy duddy now ...

I haven't been writing on it, but will try to respond to this at some point soon, possibly today but I'm preparing to ditch New York for Texas for a while and flying out tomorrow so might not get to it till weekend. It's good that you're doing on-location reporting, blogging needs that in order to hasten demise of traditional outlets. What's up with you and the Sex Pistols?

Well, are you writing on immigration?

Been doing some first-hand reporting from AZ:

And check the links to my Phoenix protest photo-essay, which got big play around the 'sphere earlier this week.
