Hi-

Thanks for getting your brother in touch; jut spoke to him at length and he'll clearly be a great asset to Project PM and the African Development Program in particular.

The connection is subtle - both media reform and the clean water project are to be overseen by a sort of anarcho-syndicalist networking collective. The water project is to serve as a demonstration and practice run for the governing network in terms of how it will approach tasks (although this process will be far easier when our software is complete, allowing for more efficient collaboration, among other things); I'm monitoring the process to get a sense of the dynamics that come into play when a distributed, selected group of professionals come together in this fashion to achieve a goal. Additionally, although media reform is necessarily our central pursuit for now, Project PM is intended to approach the fundamental aspects of human collaboration in general, and our governing network will serve as an unprecedented and superior means by which to facilitate such collaboration to real effect. I'll have a couple of articles coming out soon that will hopefully explain my thinking on this a bit more closely, but suffice to say that I'm building what amounts to an alternative, soft-power based entity akin to a government. Feel free to give me a ring if you'd like to discuss in the meanwhile.

At any rate, I'd love to speak to your brother about applying old technologies in the context of sustainable development projects. Could you give me his contact info or ask him to consider getting in touch with me?

Hi,
I actually have no practical skills, unfortunately.  There is a way to use mathematics to find equitable ways of sharing water resources amongst different groups, since water can be a source of conflict.

My brother has ideas for how Third World countries can develop with old technology.

But I don't see a connection between media and giving people in the Third World access to clean water.

Regards,
Jonathan

Jonathan-

Not sure if I mentioned that Project PM will be implementing a charitable trust as a means of demonstrating the superior efficiency of online collaborative networks in general and our particular network schematics in particular. We'll be focusing on sustainable development in sub-Saharan Africa, probably with an emphasis on clean water projects but also educational programs as well. I've got several people working on the problem now and wanted to see if you'd be interested in working with them on developing ideas; although my knowledge of mathematics is spare, I understand that you have experience in applying higher math to practical problems, so perhaps your expertise in that regard could be useful in terms of figuring out what methods would provide the greatest improvements at the lowest costs? At any rate, you're welcome to propose any ideas you may have in this regard. Let me know if this particular sub-project interests you, in which case I'll invite you to a shared Google document we're using for now as a scratch pad. Later, the governing network will oversee all of these things, perhaps electing members to serve on committees set up for the purpose. Let me know what you think.
