So Jamie and I have started this campaign to get Obama on the show to answer questions from young progressives. I have no idea if this
will work but at the least, we are hoping it will get a lot of attention and bring up the fact that he is taking advantage of his base. We were wondering if you know anyone who may want to write about it or if you could just help get the message out on twitter.
We are retweeting this message....a lot.
(RT!) Tell President Obama to remember his base, and to say YES to Q&A with #CitizenRadio. #OandCR @BarackObama @whitehouse @PressSec
Here is a semi formal press release stating our case. Thanks so much.
Hope you're well!
A
Operation Hold Obama Accountable
The grassroots political radio show has an international following of young, energetic Progressives, who are disillusioned by the Obama administrations series of broken campaign promises.
Though Obama has proven more than willing to sacrifice his sanity
trying to deal with Bret Baier on Fox News, and the media just cant quit its love affair with the Tea Party movement, Progressives demands have been neglected by the president, and under-reported by the networks.
If Obama is willing to be held accountable by FOX, a network known for peddling Republican propaganda and spouting baseless lies, then surely he should also be held accountable by and consider himself accountable to the base that helped get him elected.
Many Progressives feel disenchanted on a number of issues, including:
* Health care reform that ended up being a bonanza for the privatized drug and insurance industries * Failure to close Guantanamo
* Granting immunity to the companies that wiretapped American citizens phones * The perpetuation of Bush regimes state secrets privileges * Growing poverty, while the upper crust got bailed out during the
economic crisis even though they made billions selling poor people bum loans
Progressives were promised change, but all they got was more poverty, more war, more of the same.
Accountability
During a September 2009 interview with CNN, John King asked Obama
about the torture investigations. Obama responded by saying no one is above the law, and ultimately, the law is the law and we dont go around picking and choosing how we approach it.
Yet, this kind of noble rhetoric is undercut by what has become the
Obama administrations mantra of looking forward, not backwards.
Perhaps most outrageously, while the architects of the illegal Iraq war and Wall Street subprime Ponzi scheme walk around free men and women, the single instance the Obama team appears willing to look
backwards is to prosecute a NSA whistle-blower, Thomas A. Drake.
If Obama hopes to get reelected come 2012, he will need to answer his young bases questions. Citizen Radio wants to sit down with the president for a polite, but pivotal conversation about his promises,
the importance of law, and justice.
And Citizen Radio pinky swears not to ask him about his birth certificate!
As Americans, we can take enormous pride in the fact that courage has been inspired by our own struggle for freedom, by the tradition of
democratic law secured by our forefathers and enshrined in our Constitution. It is a tradition that says all men are created equal under the law and that no one is above it. President Obama
