8:36 PM samantha.sterling: hey there
me: oh howdy
wanna try to go out some time this week?
samantha.sterling: absolutely
me: I finally managed to do my laundry
8:37 PM now all I need to do is shave
samantha.sterling: oh no. i was so hoping to meet you naked
me: I don't actually have to put the clothes on just because they're clean
plus, I would have just gone out with jeans sans underwear
a lot of bars don't let you come in naked
8:38 PM samantha.sterling: good point
clothes it is
me: got any interesting activities going on this week that would make for a good date?
samantha.sterling: nothing in particular, just my usual routine
you?
8:39 PM me: I'm about to e-mail my buddy who's the editor of this online magazine that covers all of the fancy goings-on
over in Manhattan, mostly
technically I'm the assistant editor
gonna see if he has any ideas
can get us on the guest list for a lot of things
8:40 PM samantha.sterling: cool. if it's free why not
me: yeah, and there's always a variety of interesting things, largely art-related but nonetheless sometimes of actual value and merit
we'll see what he says
so, you fully recovered?
8:41 PM samantha.sterling: sounds good. otherwise, there are lots of great bars. yeah i'm recovered. apparently i have allergies which have just recently developed
so towards the end of it, what i thought was a cold was actually allergies
totally odd
8:42 PM how are things with you?
me: one sec
talking to editor about our date
samantha.sterling: k
8:44 PM me: we got masquerade show tomorrow night...
exhibit of nudes in masks
free booze
from 6 to 9 on w. 29th street
400 confirmed guests
8:45 PM samantha.sterling: i actually have plans tomorrow night. my dad is coming into the city for a business meeting and we're having a late dinner
me: okay, one sec
samantha.sterling: is there anything on friday or sat?
9:00 PM me: sorry, he wanted to all catch up and whatnot
yeah, there'll be a bunch of different things
he says he'll figure out the best ones and let us know our options by Friday morning
probably earlier
9:01 PM samantha.sterling: sounds good to me
me: I'll try to get the details by Thursday
samantha.sterling: whenever. it really doesn't have to be fancy.
me: most likely, there will be a number of gallery openings with free drinks and food and whatnot
and interesting people
9:02 PM in fact, I may start writing for him again just to get out to a couple of parties each week
now that it's warm and whatnot
so, anything interesting happen to you lately?
9:03 PM samantha.sterling: not too much. saw shelter island. it was ok. volunteering, reading, the usual.
me: what are you reading?
samantha.sterling: i read bluebeard today
it's a vonnegut book that i hadn't read before
very good
9:04 PM tomorrow i'll probably read another one
go to the park and read
that's what i did today
you?
me: usual craziness
9:05 PM wikileaks did the press conference on April 5th as planned
I was ready for it, stayed up all night beforehand writing piece and preparing, scooped everyone in the world except for al-Jazeera, which only had a short and not-too-informative advance piece up
9:06 PM then openly mocked everyone else for coming late to the game
samantha.sterling: jesus
me: also wrote what will serve as the bulk of the Project PM manifesto, going to offer it to Vanity Fair and Wired and a few other folks
9:07 PM samantha.sterling: ah, that's very important
me: if they are too foolish to run it, I'll just put it up on True/Slant, Huffington Post, and Daily Kos like usual
9:08 PM samantha.sterling: brb phone
9:09 PM me: also gotta write my second column for Skeptical Inquirer, part two on my series regarding how the internet has drastically improved the position of skepticism even despite the ability of nonsense to perpetuate itself by way of such things as e-mail forwards
9:13 PM samantha.sterling: how many parts are going to be in this series?
9:18 PM me: just two, I think
9:19 PM samantha.sterling: think you can stop at 2?
me: depends
there are a lot of related issues, collectively all I like to write about no
now
9:20 PM samantha.sterling: clearly. i don't really see how you would have time to date anyone, what with all the time you have devoted to your many journalistic and world conquering passions
9:23 PM me: I usually don't
9:24 PM didn't even have sex for a period of two years
then resumed when I moved to New York
9:25 PM at which point I promptly dated two girls at once
then stopped dating both
don't think I had sex at all from then to November 2009
samantha.sterling: you were too busy?
9:26 PM or you just didn't feel like having sex?
me: mostly the latter
or, rather
I didn't feel likely engaging in the ground wok
9:27 PM samantha.sterling: fair enough
why did you stop dating those girls?
me: one sec
9:28 PM sorry, suddenly inundated with requests for me to type things
samantha.sterling: it's cool. go do that stuff, we'll chat later
