Olympic
Gold-Medalist Hannah Kearney Supports Pathfinder International's Girl2Woman
Challenge; Encourages Action this International Women’s Day
Watertown, MA—March 5, 2010—Hannah Kearney,
Olympic gold-medalist freestyle skier and New England native, is
encouraging support for Boston-based Pathfinder International’s Girl2Woman
Challenge this International Women’s Day.
Ms.
Kearney said, “When it comes to your body, everyone deserves the freedom to access
reproductive health care and not be judged no matter where in the world they
live. It should be a right to have the services you need to stay healthy,
that’s why I think the Girl2Woman challenge is so great.”
Pathfinder’s
Girl2Woman challenge is to reach 200,000 video shares on the www.Girl2Woman.org website by
International Women’s Day to raise awareness about the 200 million women who
want , but lack access to, modern contraceptives. Every video shared on the
site raises $1 for critical reproductive health care for women in the
developing world.
“I hope
everyone will take a minute to visit the site and share—with friends, on
Facebook, wherever you can. This is such an important issue, and Girl2Woman.org
offers a great opportunity for all of us to take action together,” Ms. Kearney
said.
Pathfinder
International’s challenge does not stop at International Women’s Day. The
ultimate goal is to reach 1 million shares and raise $1 million to support
sexual and reproductive health care in the more than 25 countries where
Pathfinder works.
Pathfinder International’s mission is to
ensure that people everywhere have the right and opportunity to live a healthy
reproductive life. In more than 25 countries, Pathfinder provides women, men,
and adolescents with a range of quality health services—from contraception and
maternal care to HIV prevention and AIDS care and treatment. Pathfinder strives
to strengthen access to family planning, ensure availability of safe abortion services,
advocate for sound reproductive health policies, and, through all of our work,
improve the rights and lives of the people we serve.
