Hi, Abbey-

This is Barrett Brown; I write for Vanity Fair, Huffington Post, The Onion, Skeptic, and few other things here and there, and my second book is coming out in a few months. I wanted to query you on a piece I'll be writing soon.

Filmmaker Yony Leyser just sent me a review copy of The Man Within, which will be the first documentary on William S. Burroughs. The film includes interviews with John Waters, Iggy Pop, the remaining Sex Pistols, Sonic Youth, and Peter Weller, among others, and Leyser has arranged for me to interview Weller as well as Sonic Youth. Wellers played Burroughs in Naked Lunch and spent a great deal of time with the author in preparation for that role. Though he's probably best known for playing Robocop, he's an unusually erudite fellow in general, particularly for an actor; he won an Academy Award in 1993 for having directed the short film Partners, is an adjunct faculty member at Syracuse and a grad student at UCLA specializing in the Italian Renaissance, and has been involved lately in a number of productions for The History Channel in addition to his roles in shows like 24 and the various sci-fi programs from Star Trek on down. Sonic Youth, meanwhile, is still Sonic Youth.

Let me know if you'd be interested in either a piece on The Man Within incorporating interviews with Weller and Sonic Youth, or perhaps a profile of Weller linked to his appearances in the upcoming documentary.

Thanks,
