Have you ever talked to Myers? If so, you might have a better chance getting in touch with him; let me know, otherwise I'll try to reach him. Meanwhile, I'm got Juan Cole, the Middle East expert, interested; he said to call him this afternoon. Since he's in, we'll be able to bring in tons of others as well. Also, talked to Coates Bateman, and he's very interested in promoting it and perhaps coming to some sort of arrangement; Stein and I will probably go in and meet with them next month, before we meet with the investor group. Allison Kilkenny and a few other bloggers have signed on as well. I'll be making a formal announcement later this week on T/S and HuffPo and wherever else; perhaps you could run it on LGF as well. Had a few other conversations, will fill you in later.

All in all, I'm pretty amazed at the reaction thus far. This really is an incredibly viable project; we really have a chance to make a serious impact on the media structure. People who read the better blogs know how broken things are, and they're pissed, and they're ready to do something about it; they were just waiting for leadership.

Actual name of this thing will be Project 3Jane.

Also, I'm going to write a T/S post addressing the goofy negative reactions from all the douche-o-cons and clarify that my phrasing was at fault regarding your comments on PJ Media being a "right-wing parrot" organization; a couple of your enemies are accusing you of trying to "rewrite history," whereas it was just sloppy writing on my part. I'll fuck with them all until they retract. If they don't - and they won't - it will serve as further evidence that they don't like retracting things when facts prove them wrong, and you can point to that as further evidence of their mendacity. I'll let you know when that post goes up in case you'd like to point to it.
Hope you're enjoying Charles Johnson Weekend Extravaganza.

Yeah, it's almost as nice as being stripped naked, covered with honey, and staked out on an anthill.

I saw the thread at John Cole's blog -- yes, there were some interesting comments.

Another person who might be good to include -- Oyvind Strommen, a Norwegian writer who helped enormously researching the Vlaams Belang and other Eurofascists. He's a very good writer, and very knowledgeable about political extremist movements in Europe, and religious history in general.

And it would be great to have someone around like PZ Myers or Tim Lambert to analyze the morons like George Will who distort scientific issues.

As expected, the majority of the reaction to my piece as well as to the NYT profile was from the various con bloggers who don't care for you, but I've seen some interest from various moderates and leftists in the project so far, with a couple of bloggers having already e-mailed to join up. Also, you should look through some of the comments at this site, as a number of people have suggested various ways in which the project might be specifically implemented and otherwise expressed what I think is probably the representative sentiment of non-conservative blog readers and writers in particular as to what needs to be done and why. All in all, I'm pretty surprised and pleased at the response, as it makes me think that it's going to be easier to recruit people and otherwise get folks to back this up than I had expected.

Long story short: he's an accountant in Columbus who hooked up with my PJ Media partner Roger Simon in the early days, and had a couple of meetings with us. Nothing came of the meetings, and we met a much better investor before making any deals with him.

Justin-

Good to make your acquaintance; I've read a number of your articles over the years. I believe we have a mutual friend in Jeremy Sapienza.

I've spoken with Johnson at some length over the past couple of months and have found him to be a reasonable and intellectually honest person; that he has abandoned the conservative movement and repudiated his past mistakes leads me to admire him to that extent, largely because none of the nation's more "serious" commentators seem to be in the habit of acknowledging their extraordinary errors, whereas he himself has been willing to go where his observations take him.

I don't think Johnson "hates" Muslims. He is very hostile towards Islam and all forms of religious nonsense, as am I; the big three monotheistic faiths are all fascist and patriarchal to the extent that they are actually take seriously, and we happen to be at a point in history in which Islam tends to be taken more seriously by its adherents than does Christianity or Judaism, both of which still manage to do great violence to the proper aspirations of humanity even in the twilight of their influence. I'm assuming he has contempt for many religious practitioners who infringe on the rights of others in reference to their particular deities, and so do I.

I am working with Johnson on the project mentioned in the Vanity Fair piece because I am tired of simply writing books and articles pointing out the nonsense put forth by the nation's commentators without having any real effect on the system that has brought such commentators to prominence. I hope that you will consider working with me as well after such time as the project is made more explicit.

Thanks,

Your fawning profile of the Muslim-hating Charles Johnson overlooks
the really awful stuff he posted in the run-up to the Iraq war and
afterwards. He was shocked -- shocked! -- that the "movement" he
helped start made alliances with European fascists and other unsavory
types here in the US, but that's because Johnsonian anti-Muslim
rhetoric and its fascist equivalent are nearly identical. Oh, but
since he's a "secularist," I suppose that makes it okay in your book.
Or, conversely, maybe you just didn't research Johnson's past
writings. In any case, his assertion that he's a "classical liberal"
has got to be one of the biggest jokes ever.
