This is Barrett Brown; I'm a twenty-something political humorist and activist based in Brooklyn and a regular contributor to Vanity Fair, The Huffington Post, Skeptic, and other random outlets, and I also serve as director of communications for Enlighten the Vote (formerly the Godless Americans Political Action Committee), a PAC which advocates for the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment as it pertains to the rights of both religious and secular Americans alike. My first book, Flock of Dodos: Behind Modern Creationism, Intelligent Design, and the Easter Bunny, was released in 2007 to praise from Alan Dershowitz (meh), Matt Taibbi, Cenk Uygur, and other sources; my second, Hot, Fat, and Clouded: The Amazing and Amusing Failures of America's Chattering Class, will be released in April.
This latter book details the manner in which such widely-respected pundits as Thomas Friedman, Charles Krauthammer, Richard Cohen, and Martin Peretz have done severe damage to the public understanding by way of ridiculous predictions, contradictory claims, and other nonsense (I also go after William Bennett, James Dobson, and Robert Stacy McCain just for kicks, although the latter is included for a larger purpose).
I've been reading you since your pre-Salon days and notice that you've done more than your part in going after such people as these, and was thus wondering if you might perhaps be willing to read the manuscript of my upcoming book and afterwards provide a blurb if you consider it to be worthwhile. I realize that you're extraordinarily busy, so of course I understand if you're unable to do this.
At any rate, I appreciate the work you've done over the years, as does everyone else who is familiar with your output and likewise concerned with the manner in which our media structure has fallen into such a degree of amoral inertia as we see today.
