Subject: Chat with Dan COLLINS
From: Dan COLLINS <vermontaigne@gmail.com>

me: how's everything?
Dan: Fine, I guess. How are you?
me: very well for once.
me: have you thought any more about the RS McCain thing?
Dan: I've not really very much. I do know that he responded to the Politico thing, as did William Jacobson, and he claims that he didn't write the stuff that is attributed to him from that Holocaust article.
Dan: From the White Supremacist site.
me: I see
me: he had already admitted to having the user name
me: anyway, just wanted to see if you were planning on writing anything about the subject
me: I haven't been following any blogs at all for the past month, has anything of note gone down at PW or anything?
Dan: I may. I'd have to really take a closer look at all the relevant information, including visiting this whitey website, but that's not something I relish at the moment.
me: I understand
Dan: I guess that I want the skirmishes between Charles and Stacy to stop before I dig any deeper, to be quite frank about it.
me: well, it's going to stop one way or the other
me: it's really just a matter of time before the evidence on Stacy reaches critical mass
me: also
me: the reason I wanted to talk to, mainly
me: I've been asked to serve as head writer for a pilot that's got some good backing
Dan: Cool.
me: a sort of investigative journalism/political humor format
me: with a couple of people i've worked with in the past
Dan: That's an interesting combo. Sounds like black humor, though.
me: and we may be doing the pilot on a story I've been working on involving Vanderbilt that also happens to relate to Stacy
Dan: Okay. You mean Vanderbilt U?
me: insomuch as that I found out something else he did that's frankly unethical in a journalistic sense as opposed to just racist sentiment or what have you
me: yeah, the university, got a cousin there
me: the vanderbilt angle itself is the main thing because there's been some wrongdoing uncovered on the part of the provost, whom I interviewed the other day and caught in a fib
me: but Stacy does play a significant part because of an article he wrote on the subject in 2002 coupled with the things he's now known to have been doing at the same time
Dan: Hmmmmm.
me: so, basically, even if the series is not picked up, we'd still be distributing the pilot under a different setup
me: and the fellows I'm working with are moderately prominent and have some fairly decent backing
me: so McCain really is probably going to be exposed on all of this to a greater extent at some point in the next six months or so
Dan: I'm trying to figure out . . . you mean a pilot for a show, but one that doesn't fictionalize the events, right? It really is straight ahead journalism with commentary.
me: yeah, sort of akin to a documentary
Dan: Oh, okay.
me: with various formatting
me: thematic sketches, interviews, etc all interspersed
Dan: LOL, hope you don't have Sullivan on to talk Trig
me: that'd be something
me: did you see that deal
me: where he wrote about how he had to shut down the blog for a couple of days in the interests of the republic
Dan: Yeah, I saw that.
me: because he needed to fully review Going Rogue before writing on it?
me: ah
me: anyway
Dan: I would tease him more, but I honestly do think he's mentally ill.
me: that was pretty flamboyant even for him
me: I'm sure you do
Dan: Yeah . . .
Dan: *eye roll*
me: THEATRICAL EYE ROLL
me: anyway
me: I'll let you go now
me: but again, you really should consider finishing up taking a look at McCain and all of this
Dan: Sounds like a great show. I've already told Stacy that these are serious accusations and that he needs really to answer them point by point, but that's all I can do on that end.
me: Understoodd
Dan: But I guess I'll look into it.
Dan: I have a piece on Oprah's advocacy of the lunatic who got those people killed in that Arizona sweat lodge that I'm working on.
Dan: But one of the victims was a friend, and a very close friend of my brother, so it's very depressing work.
me: yeah, I can imagine
me: Obama advocated on the fellow's behalf?
Dan: No, Oprah sent this guy into prominence in a series she did called, "The Secret"
me: oh, sorry
me: I'm stoned
me: and was up all night working
me: read that wrong
Dan: That's all right.
me: anyway, I better get back to work
Dan: Anyway, I don't want to harsh your mellow.
Dan: Thanks for dropping in.
me: have you read neuromancer?
Dan: Yeah, but it's been a long time.
me: wait, I already rambled to you about cyberpunk
Dan: Only a little.
me: okay, I'd probably better go then, I'm totally losing it
me: take it easy, adios
Dan: LOL, ciao for now.
