I've pasted the ad below. The PAC I'm with is Enlighten the Vote, formerly the Godless Americans Political Action Committee. I do media appearances for them, such as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s12Z9slWq3A.
Oh hai thar!
Just kidding. We're looking for one more roommate to dwell with us in our handsome little rowhouse apartment over here near the intersection of Flushing and Broadway in Bushwick - about two minutes to the Flushing stop on the JMZ, seven minutes to the Morgan stop on the L, and about twelve minutes to the Flushing stop on the G, with a laundromat on the corner, a grocery store two blocks away, a much better grocery store six blocks away, plus everything else you could desire stretching down both directions on Broadway, of which our little one-block street is a tributary. There's a multi-purpose art space /venue/thingamajig across the street (Lumenhouse), a supposedly hip but frankly irritating bar called Beauty Bar about four blocks down Broadway, and a superior bar about six blocks down Flushing. Woodhull Medical Center or whatever it's called is just a few blocks away in case you die or get sick.
The other roommate just arrived in NYC after having spent the last decade or so in Miami working as a journalist and editor for various alternative weeklies and other random media outlets, often as a nightlife correspondent, as well as having contributed to some city guide books and that sort of thing.
I'm a freelance writer, author, and all-around political agitator, as well as a regular contributor to Vanity Fair, The Huffington Post, Skeptic, The Onion (NYC print version, just features and whatnot), and True/Slant; I also write for a few other publications here and there and do a weekly column for Bushwick's little website/blog thingy. My first book came out in 2007 and my second is set for release next year; both are political humor. I also serve as director of communications for a political action committee that advocates for the Establishment Clause, plus I'm working on a couple of other projects.
We've also got another fellow, an old friend of mine who works on and off as a B-movie screenwriter, production assistant, and actor, and who's currently working as a chef at a French restaurant as well. He'll cook for us while he's here; he's just crashing on my bedroom floor for a couple of weeks as he's in the middle of a rather sudden divorce from his crazy wife, who recently threw him out of their apartment. Incidentally, I think the divorce was probably his fault and that he's the one who drove her crazy in the first place. At any rate, she's crazy. He's got a book out, too, but it probably sucks.
I work at home and spend a good portion of my day conspiring against my quickly-increasing number of political enemies, with these consisting mostly of conservative pundits and activists, theocrats all.
We're looking for someone who's intelligent, creative, laid-back, and reasonable. You must enjoy reading. You can be loud if you'd like; we're usually not, but we enjoy noises.
Get in touch if you're awesome. On Sun, Nov 1, 2009 at 11:35 PM, W

Hey Barrett- Sounds great. I just moved here, so I don't know too much about what's happening locally. I mean there is Copwatch, but I don't know how active it is in New York. But your organization sounds cool and we should definitely talk even if the living thing doesn't work out. I'll call you soon. What PAC are you with?
Would you mind resending me your ad- I should have copied and pasted it so I could remember, but didn't...d'oh.
Thanks and I'll see you on Tuesday!
Thanks
Mae

Hi, Mae-
As I said, give me a ring on Tuesday if you'd like to come by. Also, what sort of community organizing work are you doing? I'm involved in a PAC as director of communications and recently founded an organization that works to prevent illegal searches by police in Bushwick, so even if you don't take the room, we should talk.
Thanks,

Hi! I'm interested in coming by to check out the place and meet you all. I'm from Miami, too. Just moved here about 3 months ago, working in the non-profit world- running service learning trips that have a focus on race, class and community organizing. My politics are sorta far to the left, but I'm not pushy about it, though do appreciate like-minded or at least thoughtful people. I've lived with roommates for years. I like reading- mostly non-fiction. I also like to live in a clean space. I'm not neurotic about it at all, but don't want to live in a shithole. I'd also like to live in a stable place, where it doesn't seem like people are coming in and out all the time. I'm a 25 year old woman, too. You didnt say anything about the actual room in your ad, but you seemed cool so I thought I'd respond. Please feel free to call 786-216-5640 or write.
Thanks
Mae
