Hi -- you can't imagine how much I want to live with you based on your craigslist post alone.
My name's Rick Burkhardt and I'm a produced playwright/composer moving to Brooklyn to pursue obscurity. I'm not going to spend this entire email trying to be funny, though I want to. I've been sending out a standard blurb about myself which follows anon, but before anon occurs, I wanted to mention that I'm currently taking a break from my career (no, it really is a career) as a composer/performer of political satire songs (from a decidedly non-right-wing perspective). The band is called The Prince Myshkins. We're not famous but enough semi-famous people have covered (and recorded) my songs that I did manage to live for a while off royalties. Political satire is apparently a human need. But I digress.
I really, really want to meet you -- and I'm in a bit of a hurry (aka panic) because my apartment hunt has reached a critical stage where I have to make a decision about a pretty good place I saw earlier this week -- I have to let them know by *tonight* (Friday night). Is there *any* chance that I could meet you and see your place sometime today (Friday) or this evening? Sorry this is so rushed. The thought of living with other writers (and readers) is causing me tremors of glee. If Friday won't work, but you are interested nonetheless, let me know and maybe I can swing something.
You ended your post with "Get in touch if you're awesome," and I think my resultant action speaks volumes.
Okay -- the moment of anon has come. The standard blurb about myself follows. Really hope to hear from you -- email or phone (608) 335-3381.
Voila
Hi! I'm writing about the room you advertised on Craigslist.
My
name
is Rick Burkhardt (608-335-3381) and I'm just moving to Brooklyn,
looking for a
room starting anytime between now and early-mid November, hoping for at least a
six-month lease but very flexible about that. I'm a playwright and composer, generally
working in experimental classical music (hard to explain what that
means...), and I think people often guess that that would mean I'd be
playing music all day and night but I'm actually very quiet --
most of my work consists of writing small dots on paper.
I make a
living from commissions and royalties and I have a lot of money saved
-- I promise I'll never have trouble paying rent. I'm in my
late 30's but have often lived with younger people and that seems to work well. I
don't smoke, drink, or do drugs (I'm not judgmental about people who do), and I'm
a good cook, *love* to share food (a big plus for me would be if this is apartment where people sometimes eat meals simultaneously).
I am gay, and eager to live in a gay-friendly place. I'm
allergic to cats and dogs. Friendly, good at conversation, but also understand
that people don't want to talk all the time.
Anything
else you can tell me about yourself and the place would be great -- or
if you have questions I'm glad to answer them. I'd
be available to meet and look at the space tomorrow afternoon (Thursday),
or any time on Friday or the weekend. Let me know if this is
of
interest -- 608-335-3381, call anytime.
If you want to know some more about me, I do have a website (not very
flashy, mostly for professional reasons but it may be of interest: http://rickburkhardt.com
)
Thanks -- hope to hear from you! Best of luck.
