The opening quote by Robert Stacy McCain is rich, since this is precisely the modus operandi of the American right-wing and especially neo-Confederates. 

I like the bit about inviting McCain to a party.

He is clearly scared.  Incidentally, I noticed between November 20, 2002 and November 22, 2002 that the neo-Confederates would send me email with racist epithets and then send a polite email (cc'd to me) to Gordon Gee, from which you wouldn't think they were racist: the very same people.  McCain is playing polite here.

Borrowing from one McCain quote: The white person who does not mind a black math professor (or black president) may react with revulsion when that black person actually defends black interests.
