Barrett,
I think you should call Kim, and tell him you really want to come down and see him. Just tell him you want to go to lunch, or get a cup of coffee. Whatever he fells like so it's not a physical burden on him. Nobody facing this is without fear. Regardless of what Kim says about not wanting a lot of people around, as close as you have always been, a visit from you would be welcomed by Kim more than you will ever know, even if he keeps it inside. You will always regret not coming down if you let this precious time slip away.
Tell Kim I am thinking about him. Tell him I wish the project in Tanzania had worked out, and not been such a disappointment. Tell him I so sorry about his situation, and that I said a prayer for him last night, and for his mom, and for all the family.
