Well, all of those hits basically come from one visual piece with a video of a bizarre Belgian commercial; probably just got picked up by one of the popular aggregators or some such. Most of his posts don't have any hits at all really, even though he's got a lot of connections from his top-notch background. He'll drop back down in a couple of days. Meanwhile, I'm in the top 8 percent or so of contributors already, and I bet I can do better soon when some other bloggers like Wonkette start keeping me in their feeds.

The big question is, where are guys like Jeff Koyen getting those 78,000 hits in 5 days? Maybe we should google him, figure out where he's planting links, etc?

Look at how easy it is for even the more famous contributors to lose their ranking. This Ryan Sager guy who had the piece in NYT when you were in town and who was number one or two for a while has written a bunch of new posts over the last few days but they're not getting any hits (and aren't very good) and so he's not even in the top 30 right now.
