Hello everyone,

To answer your question Ellen, PayPal is going to be a million times easier than LinkPoint. Here's an update from my end:

The entire website is ready to go. The only thing we are waiting on is getting this donation system set up. The problems I've had with LinkPoint revolve primarily around the fact that it's designed for retail sales and not donations. Ergo, I'm trying to use it for the wrong purpose. Overall, after dealing with those people for weeks, I'm not confident it's the best system.

We're now looking at authorize.net. I'm calling their sales rep this week to explain SPECIFICALLY what we want to do with the service. If he convinces me it's better, I'll recommend that we switch services. Don't worry, I'm not easily persuaded, I work in sales myself.

So basically, as soon as PayPal gets set up and/or we switch to authorize.net, we should be ready to go.

Hello Everyone,

   Happy New Year!

Two things. First, we had our first media appearance by our Communications Director Barrett Brown appearing on FOX!  He did very well. Congratulations Barrett. Unfortunately, he was introduced twice as being with the  "American Atheist Society" and not EV.   Usually, they ask us to spell our names and the name of the org. we are with before we do the show.  Then they put this up on the screen.  They didn't ask this time and they didn't put anything on the screen.  They assumed I was still with AA and that he must be too.   So AA got all the publicity and we didn't get any.  We'll be more careful next time and there will be many more next times.

I have been trying to set up a PayPal account for EV for months.  Below is the long saga explaining what the problem is in case you want to know the details.  Keep in mind that it is difficult to keep up with all of it with my work and school schedule.  And keep in mind that I have had to wait for people to "get back to me" and they never do. This whole thing has taken a long time to figure out and try to solve.

The problem with setting up PayPal with EV is that the bank account and e-mail address is already associated with the GAMPAC.   I can't switch it over.  I have to shut down the GAMPAC PayPal first.  But PayPal won't let me shut it down for several reasons.   When it was set up someone incorrectly selected
non-profit as the category to put it in.  I didn't set up the PayPal account.  Someone at the AA office did it for me.  So PayPal wants documentation of its non-profit status first. That's silly but it's what they want.  What I have to do first is get into the account and change the status to services – other and they will review it and then, hopefully, I can shut down that PayPal account and set up a new one at EV.
The problem is that the e-mail address that was given to that GAMPAC account was
sales@atheists.org which was to default to Rachel at the AA office.  She volunteered to help with the pac. She was forwarding those e-mails to me as I was working with PayPal  until recently.  All of a sudden she stopped getting any e-mails from PayPal.  Neither one of us knew why.  Right now we think that AA shut it down when they created their new website.  AA doesn't understand that it's not their e-mail address because it's the GAMPACs.   I am asking AA to set it up temporarily for me so I can finish this transition with the GAMPAC.  I am waiting to see if they will do it.
So this is part of the hold up.
Stephen is working on the merchant account set-up.  PayPal also does merchant accounts and he says that it looks easier than with LinkPoint which we originally signed up with.  Stephen, do you think we should go with PayPal?

Ellen
