Hey Barrett --

How are you, man? Nice to hear from you. Looking for work? Join the club, sir! Yes, I started a company called COMEDYWISE, with the intention of building a roster of writers to do corporate work, speeches, events, etc. Still building that business and would like to include you as a bullpen member (you're a good writer -- A GUIDE TO DEALING WITH HOUSECATS remains a classic.) Unfortunately, in these times, events, corporate parties, etc., are something people seem to be cutting back on and the work's become sparse. So until it picks up....

Try contacting my friend Joe Raiola at MAD (joe.raiola@madmagazine.com). They are always looking for comedy writers and they were fans of Jest (tell him you were a Jest guy and I told you to try him). The pay's pretty good - $500-$700 per page and they pay on acceptance. If you go the the DC Comics/MAD site, you'll find the writers' guidelines.

MAD's not what it once was, obviously, but they still attract some top talent and you can do clever pieces of satire (political as well). Here's a piece I just did for them (with cartoonist Drew Friedman....Scroll down. It's the Obama piece a bit down the page).

Frank-

This is Barrett Brown; I wrote a couple of pieces for Jest back when Jest still, you know, existed. I'm living in Brooklyn now and looking for any sort of work I can find that doesn't involve walking around or standing or waiting on people, and thought I remembered you mentioned something about a production company a year or two back, so I thought I'd check in and see if you know of anyone who's looking for writers or whatnot. I've attached my resume below just in case; please let me know if there's work to be had.

Word,
