Andy-

This is Barrett Brown; I freelanced for Austin's Onion A.V. until moving up to NYC a year and a half ago. Sean O'Neal says you might be in need of freelancers for the upcoming NY version of Decider or perhaps something else, so I thought I'd get in touch.

My freelance work has appeared in dozens of publications including National Lampoon, McSweeney's, and Skeptic, and my first book, Flock of Dodos: Behind Modern Creationism, Intelligent Design, and the Easter Bunny was released last year to praise from Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School, Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone, Cenk Uyger of Air America Radio, and other sources. I've also spent untold years doing event and venue write-ups for city pubs and other such things.

I've attached my resume; please let me know if you might have any work for me at some point. I'll totally do anything. I'll make coffee or sell drugs or whatever.

Thanks,

Howdy-

Meh, the TV gig was seriously being run by stockbrokers and, shockingly enough, didn't work out very well. I've had a few other successes here and there, including a second book deal and a pro bono gig as director of communications for a PAC, but I'm not pulling in anywhere near as much paying copywriting work as I used to, so I'm keeping my eyes open for anything, really.

Thanks for the contact info, though; I appreciate it. Will e-mail Andy and ask if he's got some work for me.

Thanks again,

Hey Barrett-

Sorry to hear that... The television gig didn't pan out?

I don't really know of any permanent work, especially in New York. You might hit up the NY editor Andy Battaglia (abttaglia@theonion.com) and see if he needs freelancers. They're about to launch their own Decider.com in January, and if it's as much of a drain as our site has been on me, he could probably use all the help he can get. Good luck.

This is Barrett Brown; I wrote for Austin's A.V. Club until moving up to New York last year. Just wanted to check in and see where you're at now and if you know of any work to be had, as I am stricken with poverty and famine and whatnot.
