There's also a sort of movement/musical genre that surrounds this
whole concept, and much of it is based up here in NYC. Lots of these
people smoke a drug called DMT, which is based on a South American
extract. They believe that the next layer above us in reality are what
they term to be "self-transforming machine elves" who turn words and
thoughts into incredibly intricate objects.
