I'm totally down. You'll find that I am a very enthusiastic person when it comes to this sort of thing. Let me know what to do and I shall do it.

I am also the Executive Director of the Godless Americans Political Action Committee. I formed this pac in 2002. It is non partisan. It is like Emily's List for Atheists. We are making a new website.
What do you think about this as a project to get involved in?
Ellen
Here is some information about the pac.
If you go to the old site (www.gampac.org) you will see that I have met with ranking members of Congress. I go to their fundraisers.
We have been asked by the following local candidates for our endorsement.
In 2004 a Reform Party Candidate for president asked for our endorsement. So did An Hispanic Atheist candidate running for State Representative of District 35 as a Democrat.
Another Atheist and Democratic candidate for the US House of Representatives in Florida wanted our support.
An Atheist and Green Part Candidate for the US House in Illinois 10th District asked for our support.
Josh Boughton ran for office as the District Four legislator in New York State.
We supported Don Havis who asked for our support. He ran for the school board in San Mateo, California.
David Wallace Croft ran for the Texas House of Representatives District 65. Jack Truman ran as the Democratic candidate for the 7th District Southwest Missouri.
Dori Settles ran as an Independent candidate for the US Senate in Nebraska.
And we have just donated $1,000 to the Pennsylvania state senate campaign of Atheist Ian Thomas.
Welcome to the GAMPAC
The Godless Americans Political Action Committee (GAMPAC) is non-partisan. We endorse and donate money to Atheist candidates but we will support all secularists who stand for our issues when they are elected to office.
We at the GAMPAC are dedicated to what is commonly referred to as "state-church separation" issues. We oppose all governmental programs, violations and special rights that come under the scope of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. Some of the issues we have addressed are private school vouchers; organized prayer in public schools; the faith-based initiatives; and any special rights and privileges granted to, and exemptions from, federal and state civil rights laws for the religious. Secularists form a sizeable voting bloc and together we can be heard and help to elect the kinds of politicians who will represent us.
GAMPAC grew out of the historic "Godless Americans March on Washington" (GAMOW) held on November 2, 2002 in Washington, DC. On that memorable day, for the first time in history, the diverse community of Atheists, Freethinkers, Secular Humanists and other non-religious Americans gathered in our nation's capitol to demonstrate to the world that we are free, proud and on the move.
According to Beliefnet.com, in the United States today, the secularists are made up of the large constituency of non-religious, Atheist and Agnostic voters, many of whom answer "None" to the question of church affiliation. In 2004, secular voters comprised 11% of the voting the population and were 47% Democrats, 27% Independents and 26% Republicans. In that same year, Latinos comprised only 5% of voters. Jews were barely 3%. Black Protestants were 8%. Moderate Evangelicals were 9%. Catholics and Protestants were both 7%. As can be seen, the secularists as a voting block had the highest numbers of voters of all these groups. The only group that was larger than us was the Religious Right who were 15% of the voters in 2004.
If you are running for office and would like our help please contact us
If you would like to help candidates who support us and the separation of religion and government please send a donation.
Thank you for your support.

Christ, I just read that resignation letter thingy. What a lot of needless drama they've got going over there. Would you be interested in starting up a non-dramatic secularist advocacy group of the sort that won't get bogged down in this sort of nonsense? All we need is a website, and I can provide for and fund that. Seriously, give it some thought, and give me a ring if you'd like to discuss this.
