Paul-

Thanks for getting back to me, and for taking the time to review the materials. I suspected that the proposal was what's been falling short in the submission process, and I appreciate you letting me know. I'll definitely keep you in mind if I do another book. Look forward to seeing you at the next wacky party Anna invites me to.

Thanks again,

Barrett

Dear Barrett,

Thanks for sending me your material. I really enjoyed reading the proposal and believe there's a lot of great information in the book.  When the humor hits, it's awesome. You take some great shots at the movement and its constituency.  My favorite part in the sample chapters is probably the dismantling of the
Winthrop "City on the Hill" speech. Appropriating from the immigrant protestants shows a characteristic level of obliviousness.

I shared the work with a few of my colleagues and, not surprisingly for a bunch of New York literary types, we all liked the premise of the book. But following the premise we found much of the material unfocused.  The second half of the proposal was where you really shined. The bio and research were concise, humorous and captivating, areas whereas other writers tend to fall apart.  Those only comprised a small sample of the writing you sent me though.

I'm sorry we won't be able to represent the book, but I wish you the best of luck with the project. I'd be happy to talk further about my comments sometime if we make it out for a drink with Annabo.  Please keep me in mind if you are considering any other projects.

all the best,

Paul
