Hello Barrett,

Thank you for your prompt response to our posting.  We have received a staggering amount of responses and needless to say, we're thrilled about it.

In essence, let me tell you a little bit about us and why we made the posting, and then you can make the decision as to whether this opportunity is a good fit for you.

We are a small publication (circulation (125,000+) that is distributed nationally in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. We publish in English. We have been in business for 8+ years, and we currently publish 8 editions per year, slowly increasing our frequency towards a monthly magazine.  Our magazine is 99.9% comprised of articles that are derived from exclusive interviews, commissioned and arranged by us. We don’t usually do press-junkets or press conference interviews, though we do consider them for our contents on occasion. One of the reasons behind the tight schedule is that the people that we interview are usually top level individuals (think governors, mayors, CEOs, COOs, celebrities, pro athletes, etc.) whose time is very limited, therefore when a small window of opportunity opens we have to "run with it". Usually, those windows happen very close to the editorial deadline, which accounts for the time crunch.

Because we are a small magazine still, our budget is very small. We pay either $.15/word for most articles (our stories range between 700 and 2,500 words), and we also pay on a flat rate basis. The payment structure depends on two factors: the nature of the assignment (we do produce comprehensive editorial pieces on occasion) and the available budget.  I personally like to work with my freelancers in anyway I can, so I try always to benefit you with the utmost profit possible, especially if you prove yourself to be reliable, efficient and professional about your job.  Payment for services rendered will take place anywhere from 30-45 days after the publication date of your article. This is important, because although ordinarily you will be working on a current edition and consequently you will get paid within a month (for instance, work that you do now for the June edition will be paid 30-45 days after June 1st), we may assign work for later editions that will be paid when those editions are actually published.  There is also the added benefit that since our magazine is carried in every fleet of Southwest Airlines, your work will have a pretty good amount of exposure.

I have prided myself on building, over my four-year tenure with the magazine, an outstanding relationship with our current freelance group based on honesty, respect, appreciation and mutual assistance. I’d like to be able to develop that same relationship with my new collaborators as well.

Right now, I need a few good writers that can take on the contents for the June edition, but I'm about to start work on the July edition as well. If you are still interested on working for us and are certain that you can meet tight deadlines, please reply to this email and let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Again, thank you for your interest in working for Latino Leaders Magazine.

Wendy-

I understand that Latino Leaders is looking for freelancers for an upcoming project, and I'd like to be considered. My work has appeared in dozens of publications, including Texas mainstays like Austin Monthly, Destination Dallas, The Onion A.V. Club, and The Daily Texan, as well as national outlets like McSweeney's and National Lampoon. I'm originally from Dallas but am currently based in Brooklyn.

I've attached my resume; please take a look and let me know if you'd like to discuss this further.

Thanks,
