Dear reader:

Thanks so much for your message.  I try to read them all, though I
sometimes fall behind and do not get to them in a timely way.  I am
almost always edified by the observations sent me, and most grateful.

If you do not hear back from me, I apologize up front.  I try to at
least send a short response.  But responding has become more and more
difficult as the volume of my mail has increased.  Teaching full time,
researching and writing academic articles, and blogging get in the way
of correspondence, but the killer is when I travel to speak in another
city or abroad.  I sometimes can just barely open the messages sent me
while I was on an airplane somewhere.

I encourage correspondents to consider joining me at facebook.com,
which is a useful networking tool.

This is now my preferred address, even over the U-M one-- easily
searched and managed, and a reasonable spam filter.  Much better than
Outlook.
