Fellow Brown-

Pardons for getting in touch out of the blue, but I noticed that you recommended a couple of diaries of mine on Daily Kos a few weeks back (Bush Writes a Novel and the Nigerian Scam Mail thing), so I figured you wouldn't mind.

I'm writing in hopes that you might have a little advice for me, as I'm young and stupid. My first political humor book came out back in March, and was fairly well-received, getting praise from Rolling Stone, Air America Radio, Skeptic, and some other sources and selling out its first print run. But I'm sick of dealing with this publisher and would like to move on to another one for my second book, which I've tentatively titled Not Peace, But a Sword: Why Evangelicals Are Not Only Bad for America But Also Somewhat Irritating on a Personal Basis. The problem is that only a few literary agents seem to rep political humor, and those few I've found haven't been interested (although a few are still considering it). So I'd kind of like to just submit to some independent publishing houses.

Now, here's my question: off the top of your head, do you know of any smaller, independent publishing houses that might be interested in considering such an inflammatory book? I understand that you're mostly known for broadcast work, but since you're also a writer, I thought that you might know a thing or two about the publishing landscape. If so, I'd be ever-so-grateful if you could suggest one.

Thanks for your time.

Word,

Barrett Brown
